UKCBC Student Code of Conduct - Academic Year 2025-26

UKCBC values fairness and equal opportunities for everyone. The college expects students to act in a way that doesn’t harm its reputation, even when they are not on campus. The Student Code of Conduct explains how students should behave. All students must read and understand these rules. Students are expected to engage and behave with peers and staff always in a professional, respectful and sensitive manner.

Expectations of Behaviour

  • Students are expected to complete their own academic work and refrain from cheating, plagiarism, or other dishonest practices. Respect for the intellectual property of others is a fundamental principle.
  • Students are expected to engage in respectful and constructive communication with others, both in person and online. Discriminatory or offensive language, bullying, or harassment will not be tolerated.
  • Students should take responsibility for their actions and contribute positively to the institution’s academic and social environment.
  • Students should respect the rights, dignity and privacy of all members of the community. Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexuality or any other characteristic is strictly prohibited.

Prohibited Conduct

  • This includes but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, falsification of academic records, and unauthorized collaboration.
  • The use, possession, or distribution of illegal drugs or alcohol on campus or at institution-sponsored events is prohibited. 
  • Smoking or Vaping is strictly prohibited inside the campus and near doors and outside areas where it is designated as no smoking.
  • Entering the campus while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Consuming drugs or alcohol before coming to class or during class breaks. Students causing disturbance because of drugs or alcohol may be asked to leave the premises and disciplinary action will be taken.
  • Any form of physical violence, threats, intimidation or bullying is not tolerated. This includes verbal, physical, or psychological abuse directed at individuals or groups.
  • Discriminatory behaviour or harassment based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability or any other protected characteristic is forbidden.
  • Crossing professional boundaries with members of staff e.g. asking to see them outside of the college setting or attempting to gain personal contact information.
  • The possession uses or discharge of any weapon, explosive or detonator or the discharge of any firework.
  • The theft, destruction or unauthorised use of property belonging to the institution or individuals is prohibited.
  • Offering, promising, giving, receiving or soliciting a financial, academic or other advantage or favour to influencing the actions of others.
  • False pretence or impersonation of others within or without the University, in connection with academic attainments or financial awards.
  • Conduct that interferes with the academic or administrative activities of the University, such as disruption of teaching, research, examinations, working of staff and other campus services.
  • Damage to college property or the property of any student or member of staff.

Sexual Misconduct

UKCBC is committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all students. Sexual misconduct is strictly prohibited. This includes any conduct of a sexual nature that is unwanted, creates harm, or violates the dignity of others.

Students Must:

  • Not engage in acts of sexual violence or abuse, including coercive control, threats or stalking.
  • Respect others’ rights to live and study free from unwanted conduct of a sexual nature.
  • Not victimise or retaliate against individuals who support someone reporting sexual misconduct.

Sexual Misconduct Includes (but is not limited to):

  • Engaging, or attempting to engage, in sexual acts without the other person’s consent.
  • Sexually touching another person without their consent.
  • Making unwanted sexual remarks or engaging in conduct of a sexual nature that may create an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment.
  • Inappropriately exposing sexual organs to others.
  • Repeatedly following or monitoring someone without a valid reason (stalking).
  • Recording or sharing intimate images or videos of another person without their explicit consent.
  • Organising or taking part in events that degrade victims of sexual violence, including inappropriate themed parties or initiations.
  • Spreading rumours or making degrading comments about someone’s sex life.

Violations of this section will be treated with utmost seriousness and investigated in line with the College’s disciplinary procedures. Sanctions may include suspension or expulsion.

Support and Reporting for Sexual Misconduct

UKCBC takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously. Students who experience or witness sexual misconduct are strongly encouraged to report the incident. Reports can be made in person or by email to the Student Services Officer or the College’s Safeguarding Lead. The College will ensure a fair and sensitive response, in line with its Harassment, Sexual Misconduct and Safeguarding policy.

Support services include confidential pastoral and wellbeing support, academic adjustments (where appropriate), and referrals to specialist external services. UKCBC will not tolerate victimisation of anyone reporting or supporting a report of misconduct. Attendance Policies

  • Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes and participate in academic activities. Attendance policies may vary by partner institution and students should review the course specification for specific expectations.
  • Students are expected to be on time for all academic sessions. Excessive tardiness may result in academic penalties or disciplinary action.

Dress Code

  • Students are expected to dress appropriately for both academic and extracurricular activities.

Compliance with Policies and Regulations

  • Students should comply with any other published College/Partner institutions policies, codes or procedures which are designed to ensure the effective operation of the College. You should make yourself familiar with and abide by the college/partner institution policies and regulations:

Disciplinary Procedures

  • Violations of the Student Code of Conduct should be reported to Student Service Officer.
  • All allegations of misconduct will be investigated promptly and fairly. Students will be informed of the nature of the allegations and given an opportunity to respond.
  • Any violation of student code of conduct will be investigated under Student Disciplinary policy and procedure. The sanctions for violations may include:

  1. Written Apology: A formal letter from the student acknowledging the misconduct and expressing remorse.
  2. Behavioural Caution: A documented warning indicating that further misconduct may lead to more serious consequences.
  3. Final Written Warning: A last formal notice given to a student before more severe disciplinary action is taken.
  4. Compensation for Damaged Items: Requirement to repay or replace any property that was damaged due to misconduct.
  5. Suspension: Temporary removal from the institution for a specified period due to significant misconduct.
  6. Expulsion: Permanent removal from the institution for serious or repeated violations of the code of conduct.

Student Rights

  • Students have the right to a fair investigation and an opportunity to present their case before any sanctions are applied.
  • Students have the right to appeal against disciplinary decisions. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the within10 working days of the decision.
 

Conflict Resolution and Mediation

  • In cases of disputes or conflicts between students, UKCBC offers mediation services to help resolve issues amicably without formal disciplinary action. Students are encouraged to use these resources before seeking formal disciplinary procedures.
 

Digital and Social Media Conduct

  • Students are expected to conduct themselves responsibly on social media and digital platforms. Cyberbullying, harassment and sharing discriminatory or offensive content are violations of this code and subject to disciplinary action.

Conviction for a Criminal Offence

Students must let the college know if they are convicted of a crime during their studies. The college will then decide if this affects their place at the college. When making this decision, the college will think about:

  • What the crime was?
  • Whether other students or staff are at risk?
  • Whether the student’s actions have hurt the college reputation?
 
This rule applies to crimes committed both on and off campus, including online.

Amendments and Updates

  • This Student Code of Conduct may be revised or amended as necessary. Students will be notified of any changes and updates will be posted on the institution’s website.
  • This Code of Conduct works in conjunction with policies developed by UKCBC and are found on the website www.ukcbc.ac.uk and on the Ulearn platform.
