Direct Applications
Many mature learners choose to apply directly to higher education providers. This route can allow applicants to speak directly with admissions or application support teams to better understand entry requirements, course structures and study options.
One-to-One Support
At UKCBC, mature learners applying directly can access one-to-one application guidance. This may include support with identifying suitable courses aligned to personal, professional or academic goals, understanding entry requirements, and receiving general information about student finance.
Entry requirements for mature learners may take into account a combination of qualifications, professional experience and prior learning, depending on the course. Application deadlines for direct applications can vary by programme and intake.
Direct applications do not involve a UCAS administration fee.

Many providers assess mature learner applications on an individual basis. Where applicants do not meet standard entry requirements, providers may consider relevant work experience or alternative qualifications as part of the admissions process. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their circumstances directly with admissions teams.
UCAS Applications
UCAS is the standard application route for many undergraduate courses, particularly for applicants under the age of 21. Mature learners can also apply through UCAS, following the same core process.
The UCAS Process

UCAS Extra

Clearing allows applicants to apply for courses with available places later in the admissions cycle. This route is available to applicants who apply late, do not receive offers, do not meet conditions, or decline their offers.
