Application Support at UKCBC

Applying for a bachelor’s degree as a mature learner can feel unfamiliar, particularly when navigating application routes, deadlines and entry requirements. That’s why UKCBC offers dedicated Application Support for mature learners, designed to help you understand the process and prepare for higher education.

Our Application Support Team works with adult learners to provide guidance and information throughout the application journey, helping you make informed decisions at each stage.

Our team has over two decades of experience supporting mature learners through the application process for bachelor’s degrees. We understand the challenges adult learners may face and provide guidance to help applicants navigate entry routes, requirements and next steps.

The Application Support Team can guide you through the direct application route for our undergraduate programmes. Support may include guidance on personal statements, student finance applications and preparing for admissions interviews.

Below is an overview of the support process for applicants using the direct application route.

Degree Application Support at UKCBC

1. Mature Learner Student Finance Discussion

We discuss your circumstances and outline the student finance options that may be relevant to your situation.

2. Choosing Your Study Mode

We explore your external commitments, such as work or caring responsibilities, and discuss the study patterns available for your chosen course, including evening, weekend or condensed study options where applicable.

3. Choosing a Course and Intake

We discuss your personal and career goals and consider which degree programme may be most suitable. We also provide general information about typical graduate pathways associated with the course.

4. Entry Route and Starting Point

We review your qualifications, academic background and relevant experience to help identify the most appropriate entry point, such as a foundation year or standard Year 1 entry, subject to admissions criteria.

5. Admissions Criteria and Documentation

We explain the documentation required as part of the admissions process and outline the next steps for submitting an application.

6. Submitting Your Application

We help you prepare and submit your application and provide guidance ahead of the admissions interview. Admissions decisions are made following interview and assessment outcomes, in line with entry requirements.

7. Student Finance Application Support

Once an offer has been made and accepted, applicants can be introduced to our Student Finance team for guidance on completing their student finance application ahead of course commencement. This may include information about available financial support, such as Childcare Grant or Parents’ Learning Allowance, where applicable.

Information, Advice and Guidance Based on Your Needs

We recognise that mature learners have a wide range of personal circumstances and that tailored advice can be helpful.

Applicants can access as much or as little support as they feel they need. The team can help explain how study may fit around external commitments, discuss course options linked to career aims, and guide applicants through the direct application process, which does not involve an application fee (unlike the UCAS route).
